The great Antonio Barcelo designed the gunboats during the Great Siege of Gibraltar in 1779,
where they proved to be formidable opponents despite their small size. Fast, manoevrable, and
armed with a large 24’ cannon in the bow, their effectiveness was decisive in fighting near the
cost, especially in light winds and calm seas, as they moved both by sail and oar, attacking the
enemy from their blind spots where they were unable to respond to the accurate assault. Size: 700
