James Ward Packard, an electrical equipment manufacturer, decided that he would be able to build a better car than the Winton he bought.
In 1899 he began production of single cylinder cars.
By 1903 the first four cylinder appeared.
A year later the model L Four Cylinder was produced featuring Packard's distinctive yoke shaped radiator.
By 1912 the first six cylinder appeared in the form of Packard Victoria earning Packard a reputation for making luxury cars.
